When applying for a Vietnamese e-visa, a scanned of your passport and a photograph are among the most important parts of your application.

Portrait Photo Requirements for Vietnam eVisa

1. Photo Type

•The photo must not be older than 6 months.

•It should be a passport-style photo showing the applicant’s full face.

2. Size and Format

•Recommended size: 4x6 cm (or similar passport photo proportion).

•File format: JPG / JPEG / PNG.

•Clear resolution with no blur or pixelation.

•File size should normally be under 2MB.

3. Background

•The background must be plain white or light-colored.

•No patterns, shadows, or objects behind the applicant.

4. Face Position

•The applicant must face the camera directly.

•The full face must be clearly visible, from the top of the head to the shoulders.

•The face should be centered in the photo.

5. Facial Expression

•Keep a neutral expression.

•Eyes open and looking straight at the camera.

•Mouth closed (no smiling or exaggerated expressions).

6. Clothing and Accessories

•Wear normal daily clothing (avoid uniforms).

•No sunglasses or tinted glasses. This is a mandatory requirement.

 

•No hats or head coverings, except for religious reasons (the face must still be fully visible).

7. Lighting

•The photo must be well-lit.

•Avoid shadows on the face or background.

•The image should have natural colors and good contrast.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

•Selfies or casual photos

•Photos with filters

•Cropped passport photos

•Wearing sunglasses or hats

•Dark or busy backgrounds

•Blurry or low-resolution images

Helpful Tip

You can take the photo with a smartphone camera as long as it follows the requirements above. Make sure the photo is clear, centered, and has a plain background before uploading it to the eVisa application
