Vietnam 3-Month Visa / E-Visa for Tourists and Business Travelers
A 3-month single-entry visa allows travelers to enter Vietnam once and stay for up to 90 days. If you leave Vietnam before the visa expires, it will no longer be valid for re-entry. To remain in the country beyond the initial 3-month period, you must apply for a visa extension.
Alternatively, a 3-month multiple-entry visa provides greater flexibility, allowing you to enter and exit Vietnam multiple times within the 3-month validity period until the visa’s expiration date.
Types of 3-Month Visas
Vietnam offers two types of 3-month visas: Single Entry and Multiple Entry.
1. Single Entry Visa (3 Months)
A single-entry visa permits only one entry into Vietnam during its validity period. This means that once you leave the country, the visa becomes invalid, regardless of the remaining validity time.
Example:
If your visa is valid from May 5 to August 5, you may enter Vietnam once at any time within this period and must depart no later than August 5.
2. Multiple Entry Visa (3 Months)
A multiple-entry visa allows you to enter and exit Vietnam multiple times within the 3-month validity period, up to a maximum stay of 90 days in total. You can freely travel in and out of Vietnam until the visa expires.
Example:
If your visa is valid from May 5 to August 5, you can enter and leave Vietnam as many times as needed during this period, but must depart by August 5.
What to Do If Your Vietnam e-Visa Is Not Processed on Time
If your Vietnam e-visa is delayed and your trip is coming up soon, don’t panic — there are several steps you can take to resolve the issue quickly.
1. Check your application status online
First, visit the official Vietnam e-visa website and log in with your registration code, email, and date of birth. Sometimes, processing can take a little longer due to high application volumes or system errors. Double-check that all your information is correct and that you submitted a clear passport photo and document.
2. Contact the Vietnam Immigration Department
If your e-visa is still pending after the normal processing time (usually 3–5 working days), you can reach out to the Vietnam Immigration Department through their official contact channels. Provide your application code and passport number to request an update.
3. Use an emergency or express visa service
When time is short — for example, if your flight is within 24–48 hours — you can apply for an urgent visa on arrival through a reputable visa agency. These services can often get approval letters within a few working hours. You’ll need to bring the letter, your passport, and photos to get your visa stamped at the airport. Another way, you can email to service to push evisa by send your code and email that you applied evisa. And choose the time you want to get evisa as 1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours or 1 day.
4. Avoid last-minute applications in the future
To prevent delays, always apply for your Vietnam e-visa at least 1–2 weeks before your trip. Double-check all information before submitting to avoid rejection or extra processing time.
Advantages of EVisa Vietnam
Using a Vietnam e-Visa offers many benefits, including the convenience of an online application process without the need to visit an embassy, faster processing times than traditional visas, potentially lower costs, and the flexibility of multiple entries during the validity period, making travel planning easier.
The Government of Vietnam announced a new eVisa, effective August 15, 2023. This new eVisa will be valid for up to 90 days, allow multiple entries, and permit each stay of up to 30 days, for citizens of 157 countries.
This is a significant upgrade compared to the prior eVisa, which was limited to 30-day single entry status.
Here are some of the key benefits of the new eVisa:
Simple Procedure: The entire visa application process is done online, making it easy and convenient. You only need to prepare a few basic documents, such as a valid passport and a portrait photo. Applications are submitted online through a user-friendly website with detailed, multilingual instructions.
Longer validity period: Valid for up to 90 days with multiple entries, and each stay can last up to 30 days.
Multiple-entry option: The e-Visa allows you to enter Vietnam multiple times during its validity period.
Affordable visa fee: Despite the expanded privileges (longer duration, multiple entry), the fee remains relatively low. It’s expected to be roughly double that of the previous 30-day single entry eVisa.
If you are planning to travel to Vietnam, applying for the new eVisa can save you time, money, and give you more flexibility.

Foreign Experts and Businesses Pin Hopes on Vietnam’s New Visa Reforms
As Vietnam accelerates its digital transformation and innovation efforts, the demand for high-caliber human resources has never been more pressing. However, development in the domestic workforce hasn’t kept pace—this is evident in the FDI sector, where the percentage of workers holding degrees or certificates fell from 25.5% in 2021 to 21.7% in 2024
New Visa Policies to Enhance Foreign Investment
To address this talent gap, the Vietnamese government has introduced strategic reforms:
Decree 219 simplifies regulations on foreign labor in Vietnam.
Decree 221 introduces limited-term visa exemptions for individuals deemed vital to socio-economic development
These reforms are viewed as pivotal in attracting and retaining international talent, facilitating Vietnam's integration into the high-tech economy
Voices of Optimism from the International Community
Andrew Goledzinowski, former Australian Ambassador to Vietnam and strategic advisor, considers these visa changes "highly positive and welcome developments." He emphasized that while training domestic scientists, engineers, and scholars is important, "Vietnam is an open and transitioning economy, so there is an ongoing need for skilled foreign experts to support this process"
Balancing Progress with Remaining Challenges
Despite the enthusiasm surrounding these visa and labour reforms, experts stress that additional measures are vital. Long-term residence permits, clearer implementation guidelines, and transparent enforcement will be essential in building investor confidence and ensuring sustained momentum
